Deer hide is thinner than cow hide providing a lighter backing without sacrificing strengh.

Deer hide strips are shorter than cow hide strips. You will typically need 2 rolls (one per limb) for longer Longbows.

Backing can be done over the full length of a bow or just the critical areas of the limbs. Deer hide is particularly suitable for such partial backings.

For example, take a bow of 68" length overall with a 4" handle. Back limbs starting a 2" from the handle to 2" from tips. This means you will need one strip of 56" or two strips of 30".
